The Artist
Fergal Coghlan
Dublin born and bred, I am a full-time artist since 2012. I have been painting, scribbling and drawing for as long as I remember. My first ‘professional’ gig was a mural in Portmarnock GAA club, as a 15 year old. Still there I believe.
My style is constantly evolving but I’ve been called everything from pop art, portraitist, eclectic to just plain weird, all descriptions I accept and deny in equal measure. Much of my commercial work is portraits of famous people, mostly acrylic and spray paint on canvas, wood and vinyl records.
My work is heavily influenced by my lifelong interests in art, music, and writing. Special mentions and thanks must go to Ralph Steadman, Jack Kerouac, Tom Waites and Rory Gallagher!
My first exhibition took place in September 2012 in The Icon Factory gallery. Titles “Six Riffs and A Tab“, it was well received by the public, and started a long term association with The Icon Walk charity.
